Obama Too Occupied to Listen to “Occupy” Protest Song during Summit Dinner
Chosen to perform at a dinner hosted by President Barack Obama, and attended by Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and other world leaders at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, Hawaiian singer Makana entertained the diners with a protest song in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
The refrain of the song is “We’ll occupy the streets; we’ll occupy the courts; we’ll occupy the offices of you; till you do the bidding of the many, not the few.”
Makana (born Matthew Swalinkavich) performed the song for about 40 minutes. However, observers said that President Obama and his wife, Michelle, appeared too involved with their guests to notice the song’s lyrics.
And here are the lyrics:
We Are The Many
Ye come here, gather ’round the stage
The time has come for us to voice our rage
Against the ones who’ve trapped us in a cage
To steal from us the value of our wage
From underneath the vestiture of law
The lobbyists at Washington do gnaw
At liberty, the bureaucrats guffaw
And until they are purged, we won’t withdraw
We’ll occupy the streets
We’ll occupy the courts
We’ll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few
Our nation was built upon the right
Of every person to improve their plight
But laws of this Republic they rewrite
And now a few own everything in sight
They own it free of liability
They own, but they are not like you and me
Their influence dictates legality
And until they are stopped we are not free
We’ll occupy the streets
We’ll occupy the courts
We’ll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few
You enforce your monopolies with guns
While sacrificing our daughters and sons
But certain things belong to everyone
Your thievery has left the people none
So take heed of our notice to redress
We have little to lose, we must confess
Your empty words do leave us unimpressed
A growing number join us in protest
We occupy the streets
We occupy the courts
We occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few
You can’t divide us into sides
And from our gaze, you cannot hide
Denial serves to amplify
And our allegiance you can’t buy
Our government is not for sale
The banks do not deserve a bail
We will not reward those who fail
We will not move till we prevail
We’ll occupy the streets
We’ll occupy the courts
We’ll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few
We’ll occupy the streets
We’ll occupy the courts
We’ll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few
We are the many
You are the few

Lyrics to “Is that Kidney Kosher”.. The Chop Shop Blues - November 8, 2011 by poorrichard

The Chop Shop.. talkin’ blues

I went to see my Rabbi, I’d been feelin’ kinda sick..
Doe’s he know a doctor who might cure me real quick
I met the good doctor the very next day.
My kidneys they are shot ..  How much should I pay?

I said I got plenty ‘cause I’m busy  selling ecstasy,
He told me he had a placed that would be just right for me

The clinic door was open, this place it must be Blessed..
I sat on down in a chair next to the desk..

They had row of lungs, and corneas on ice,
the donors wouldn’t need them in paradise.

I saw rows of freezer chests and cases;
And one of the freezers was for transplanting faces.

I asked Sidney at the counter about where the kidney came from..
Was it from someone healthy, or some old drunken bum?

He said it was from the Middle East, from a young girl who was healthy,
And now, I’m told that her parents are now very wealthy.

Down at the chop shop.. lord.. down ..down at the chop shop..

There was an accident at the clinic and the young girl had died.
Her parents didn’t like it and of course they cried.

They didn’t know the medics ran off with her kidneys and her eyes..
She won’t need them anymore. she’s in paradise..

So I went up close to look a little closer.
A question crossed my mind was this kidney Kosher?

Down at the chop shop.. Down at the chop shop..  Down at the  chop shop

Now that it’s all over, and a new kidney is now inside me..
I thankful to my lucky stars that it wasn’t denied me.

My appetite has changed since death was so much closer.
Yet still I wonder ..Huh..Is my kidney Kosher?

After my the transplant my thoughts all have somehow changed..
It’s almost like my thinking has been somehow rearranged..

I used to like bagels, and now I like falafels..
I used to be a racist, but now I think it’s awful

So I added up the value of all a persons parts,
and when you round out the figures it don’t take much smarts…

If you work and save with all your heart
you’ll never be worth your body parts

Down at the chop shop…..

Fade to black——-
